It looked like a scene from a Broadway play, except for one thing—admission was free.

The Greenpoint Y 2012 Summer Camp Spirit Day on Tuesday, Aug. 7, was filled with performances from Grease and The Wiz among other theatre classics. Children 5 to 12 dressed as chipmunks down to flying monkeys. They showed off their skills with music and dance, performing in different numbers at the Greenpoint Y Gynasium, located at 99 Meserole Ave.

“It's really all about having fun,” said Tatiana Terzuoli, the Greenpoint YMCA Director of Fund Development and Communications.

Terzuoli explained that judges looked for certain qualities in the eight different groups, such as who was the most original, committed and adventurous, among other things. Following all the performances, each team was given an award and each child was given an individual certificate.

Judge Heidi Springer said the important thing was to have a good attitude. “If you try and have confidence, you can't go wrong.”
