A relatively new tech startup has launched in Greenpoint to help users organize their goals, activities, ideas and, essentially, their life.

From creating “To Do” lists to tracking weight loss, LifeGunk.com helps its users get their life in order and on track, and even lets them share their progress with others.

“LifeGunk, in short, is about being proactive in everything you do in your life,” said the company’s representative, Alejandro Paulino. “Its aim is to provide a life management system that is easy to use, and allow users to get back to the real world so they can make their goals and ideas a reality.”

Paulino said LifeGunk is, “not just about keeping your information organized and easily accessible. Users can also collaborate with other users on their goals and ideas to advance their interests and help out others.”

LifeGunk’s founder, Javan Joel, first thought of the concept behind LifeGunk in 2005. After years of managing his own life on paper, notebooks, sticky notes, and online calendars, he realized how “unorganized his organization was becoming.”

Years later, as his concept progressed, he began to develop it and LifeGunk launched in April 2011. In March of this year, Joel and his sister, Dishan Elise, who is the company’s vice president, opened up their first office in Greenpoint at 110A Nassau Avenue.

With the slogan, “Don’t update your status, update your life,” LifeGunk doesn’t call itself a social network. Its creators call it, “the world’s first collaboration network” that has the ability to give new meaning to a person’s life.

Touting their ability to go beyond status updates and gossip, the creators of LifeGunk say that users will find the site to be a refreshing change.

It allows for more engaging social experiences through collaboration with others on similar tasks, goals and ideas through teaming up online and even through face-to-face meet-ups with either family, coworkers or friends.

When users set up a free account on the website, their AGI Board (short for Activities, Goals, Ideas) gets them started. The AGIs are always set to private unless users change it to public. Users can share AGIs with certain connections, send invites to those connections and those connections will have the option to join a user’s AGI.

“Users can really benefit from using LifeGunk because it provides them with a platform that can keep track of busy schedules and other important information from one central location,” Paulino said. “All of their information is accessible from any device that can access the World Wide Web and it renders the need for organizers obsolete.”

Beyond that, users can help others reach their goals by joining in on their activities and brainstorming with others on their ideas. They can also create groups. Groups have their own AGI and connections separate from the user’s profile.

For example: if a user wants to lose weight, they might add that goal on their AGI board and then set up times and dates to work out during the week. Another user can then join in on that user's activity if they are also interested in working out.

And other users can post comments on this user's goal about their diet and suggest healthy foods they should be eating to meet their target weight. They can also post comments on the activity to suggest workout routines and level of intensity.

“LifeGunk not only provides users with the tools to get more order in their lives, but it also allows users to help one another meet their goals and create an ecosystem of people taking charge of their lives,” Paulino said.

According to Paulino, there are currently several thousand unique members on the site, and the user base continues to grow daily.

The brother-sister duo chose to set up their office in Brooklyn because of its reputation for being a popular borough for small business owners and artists alike, and the two wanted LifeGunk to be part of that community.

“We always welcome local businesses to join our life management network," Paulino said. "It is a very powerful platform for small businesses that are looking for innovative ways to interact with their employees and customers. We want our company to be one of the great success stories that got its start in Greenpoint.”
