The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will bring the entire community together to celebrate and build a sustainable environment for a clean future.
There will be something for everyone including vendors, art projects, educational displays, art exhibits, environmentally friendly merchandise, health and wellness tips, live music and performances and a Greencycle Swap, where visitors can drop off cleaned and gently used items.
One of the art projects involves picking a favorite spot in the park. Starting at 11 a.m. artists of all ages and styles may reserve their spot with a push pin on a map of McCarren Park. They can draw, paint, or sculpt their surroundings using environmentally friendly materials – with the promise to leave the space as “green” as they found it.
Over 100 schools, community groups, companies, and government agencies will offer exhibits, merchandise, and activities designed to enhance the community's understanding and appreciation of the environment.
Some of the activities include derby cars by Cub Scout Troop 469, Mini-Olympics by Punk Rope, tumbling obstacle courses by Gym Park and Ms J, soccer workshops by GWYSL/United Soccer Academy, and other interactive projects by Baked in Brooklyn, the Greenpoint Y, PLAY, Replayground, Uproar Arts, to name some.
Some of the artists set to perform in the park include the Newtown Creek Players, Teague and Sora An & the love bRiGaDe.
Local schools will also showcase their green programs.
