Kew Gardens Celebrates the Diversity of Queens Artists on Sunday, September 17, 2017.
If you are looking for a large, commercial art show, then this is not the event for you. But if you prefer a full day of art experiences that celebrate the rich diversity of Queens, then mark your calendar and come to the urban village of Kew Gardens on Sunday, September 17, 2017
(rain date October 1st), 11:00am-5:00pm, to enjoy Kew Gardens Community Arts Day.
At the centerpiece, you will find an art show, Kew Gardens Outdoor Art Fair (on Austin Street, Lefferts Boulevard, neighboring streets) that will showcase an eclectic mix of fine art. The organizers, a small group of local artists, had a vision for Kew Gardens; to bring together talented Queens painters, potters, photographers, glassmakers, jewelry artists, illustrators and fiber artists and that is exactly what was accomplished. Expect an open and welcoming, very professional art show with a small town feel!
The entire neighborhood will be turned into an art experience at the Kew Gardens Community Arts Day. Watch awesome Sidewalk Chalk artists transform NYC concrete into intricate, wild works of art through vibrant colorful designs (children invited to do the same!). Learn how culture influences art from demonstrations by multicultural artists. Practice these art forms and other projects at the Arts Zone. Enjoy the Kew Gardens Musicians at an outdoor show in Kew Gardens Cinemas Park that will feature a popular mix of music genres. Admire an intergenerational fence art exhibit created by Kew Gardens’ senior citizens and children. Stop by the “Silly Selfie Station” to use the available props to take a picture with moustaches, bow ties, crowns, funny glasses or with the “Silly Hat” that you just made at the Art Zone. Watch a potter’s demonstration at The Potter’s Wheel. Have tea and pastries with an installation artist and discuss the feminine model-a new model for dwelling in urban cities. Meet a representative from NYC Department of Sanitation that will provide info and education about their exciting new Recycling Initiative starting in Queens next month, And if you’ve always wanted your portrait drawn, an experienced portrait artist will quickly sketch your likeness for you to take home.
Be sure to stop by the Information Booth, for the listing of the day’s happenings, What’s Going On In Kew Gardens Today?” Check out local businesses for promotions and demonstrations. Don’t miss out!
